Life Before Man – Margaret Atwood
This book was published in the 70s, which makes Atwood about 3298493 years old, or about the same age as a dinosaur. Apparently back then she was more depressing than a St. John’s winter. Still gorgeous writing, though.

LOVE Margaret Atwood. Have you read her latest? I’m still on the waiting list at the library.
YAY! you did a 3 line review that is 3 lines!!! Happy New Year Candice!!! Hope you have a great one!
Hahaha! Love Atwood’s languange!
That lady’s writing makes me want to drink a bottle of bourbon and sleep forever. AKA: depressed.
Ha ha ha 3298493 years old, oh wait that might be frighteningly close to my age. Nope, don’t care, still funny
I am embarassed that I am Canadian and have read only one Margaret Atwood book…The Handmaid’s Tale. Which I enjoyed so I’m not sure why I haven’t read more. en. Happy New Year!
Love the quote above! The last time I read Atwood was 3 years ago, for my A-levels. ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’…. she’s definitely one heck of a writer. There’s a line in her book, “Why does night fall, instead of rising like the dawn?”
I still think about it today, which is so weird.
Funny how those lines stick, eh? I've carried around that quote in my head forever
I actually don't rate Margaret Atwood as much as everyone else – believe me, I'm definitely all for women's rights, but I don't necessarily want to forcefed when I'm trying to enjoy some fiction. But I'm basing this all on Handmaid's Tale, which I enjoyed rather less than nashe!
Handmaid's Tale was definitely in-your-face feminist, but I think that's maybe the only book I've read by her with that sorta attitude…definitely try something else by her! Oryx and Crake or Cat's Eye comes highly recommended
Atwood is one of my favourites, but I’ve never read Life Before Man, I’ll have to get my hands on a copy. I think my favourite Atwood book is Lady Oracle, it was the first Atwood book I ever read way back when I was 18 and it blew me away (I think I’m the only person in Canada who read The Handmaid’s Tale because I wanted to, it wasn’t a part of my literature program in high school or university. It’s both Atwood and science fiction, so win-win for me). Actually, Alias Grace may be my favourite, cause it knocked my socks off it was that good, I burned through it dying to see what would happen. If I was going to suggest an Atwood book to someone who is unfamiliar with her work, I would recommend Alias Grace. It’s more historical and very dark and mysterious and it doesn’t go all twisted-relationshipy, like The Robber Bride, or Cat’s Eye. Cat’s Eye tore my heart out, it hit a little too close to home with the childhood teasing, so amazing but it gave me stomach pains. She’s seriously amazing, I can’t think of another writer that writes prose that evokes such strong emotions in me I feel like puking. In short, she rocks.
What do you mean I’m long-winded? I haven’t commented on your site for a long time, I’m making up for it all in one go.
LOL, Alana! Yeah, you’re totally right though, she’s an outstanding author for sure. Cat’s Eye also struck a chord with me for the same reason, but I’ve never read Alias Grace…hmm…AND I also read “The Handmaid’s Tale” for fun! Go team Dork!

Yeah, I love her too! Wasn’t overly impressed by this one though. I’m waiting to get my hands on her latest one as well…can’t believed I missed her talk when she was here.
Woooot, nailed it! Happy New Year!
Me too, she’s fab!
Hahahaha, I know eh? Have you read Oryx and Crake? that’s a bit lighter
Hahahahaha, but you are wise
My favorite line from that one is “a man is just a woman’s strategy for making other women.”
