Perfume - Patrick Suskind

The most bizarre book I’ve ever read. Begins with a scentless baby, ends with a riotous orgy. One man’s account of his super-human smelling sense and distaste for humanity. Amazing writing, although I’m mildly disturbed about all the murder victims being gingers.

Didn’t they make that into a movie?

I will not watch if he only kills gingers.

but isn’t he saying gingers smell the best?? ;)

I haven’t actually read book. Movie was disturbing but somewhat hypnotic. I couldn’t not watch. Whole concept fascinated me. Made me want to make perfume.

that boob on the cover seems oddly shaped

Seems like it should be a “standing-upright” boob rather than a “laying-down sideways” boob, no?

That was actually an intriguing review, Candice. I might read it if I can find it at the library.

“Scentless baby”… Does that mean when it grows up it doesn’t have to wear deodorant? If so, that is AWESOME!

But seriously, intriguing review, so vague, yet descriptive… Sorry about the gingers, too bad he couldn’t have thrown in some blondes, seems discriminatory to me.

      Pretty much, yes!

I guess the ginger thing is positive, their scent basically drove him wild. Kinda kooky.

The whole thing sounds freaky. But hmmm….I’ve never heard of the book nor the movie. I might be living in a cave.

It was Kurt Cobain’s favourite! That’s how I became interested. I suggest picking it up, it’s pretty good.

I liked the book too, althoug yes, it’s quite disturbing.
Have you seen the movie? It’s quite good. I think it won an Oscar for costumes.
