Somehow Gladwell has managed to write a whole book on impulse thinking and quick decision making, and it’s damned interesting. Did you know that being short is actually the biggest factor keeping people from becoming CEOs? Buy some wedges, ladies.

Hence why I usually walk around in 4-inch heels…
YES!!
Gladwellian thinking is awesome. I am almost done Outliers and have The Tipping Point, What the Dogs Saw. Blink is another upcoming investment. He’s a very intelligent thinker and has helped me solidify many of the thoughts I have had on topics like success, decision making, and social change.
I wonder if that would change if everyone worked remotely and all conversed on video conference… Height would not matter, then the problem would become looks or tone of voice.
That’s interesting, and the book sounds interesting though not like anything my scattered mind would comprehend. That’s why i come here, so I don’t have to read it!
Aw well this makes sense. I will now blame my lack of success on my height!
Crap, I’m 5′2″ and wear flats. No wonder I’m always the assistant.
@J: Ughhh, I can barely manage the 2-inch…
@Chris: Totally, I had a ton of “a-ha!” moments while reading that book. I’ll have to check out the others you mentioned.
@Hey Lady!: That’s the thing though, I’d NEVER pick up that kind of book! I totally recommend it.
@Carissa: I blame my lack of love life on my height.
@Linlah: My gawd, I think I’m the only person in the blogosphere over 5″2!
Well, as much as I hate to be a naysayer, why stop now? I’m 5′6″ and, as my blog name might suggest, I wear inappropriately high heels, making me absurdly tall on many an occasion. This includes, of course, at work. And I am not now, nor have I ever been, a CEO.
Actually, it’s an interesting premise. The way we look has so much to do with where we end up. It effects self perception and, as a result, the things to which we aspire. It also effects the way people perceive us, which is what Gladwell is saying, yes?
Isn’t it wild? How stupid are we? Pretty stupid, I’d say. So easily swayed by nothingness. The book sounds interesting.
And it looks like you and I are the only two people over 5′2″!
Totally! There’s a whole section of the book about how we judge people based on appearance and charisma. Some of it, like racial profiling, is mega scary. We all do it to some degree, apparently.
Definitely check it out!
P.S. I wish I could wear heels, I look like a fool in them.
